HWOEIN HEAD'S CRYING TWO TIMES

Introduce sultural sightseeing of Boeun.

Hwoenam-myeon and Hwoein-myeon of the Boeun county belonged to Hwoein hyeon in the Joseon dynasty.
Legend has it that the head of Hwoein hyeon sent from the central government to serve here for a certain period of time would cry two times. The reason was as follows. On the way to Hwoein from Seoul, he had to climb over the Pibalryeong like others. Reaching the ridge of the pass, and looking down at Hwoein which he would govern, he would notice that what he could identify was only mountains after mountains, and nothing else. Feeling as if he were expelled to there in exile, rather than to rule over local people, he would cry, according to the legend. But, over time, serving as the county head, he would find out that residents were kind and hospitable, and there were plenty of local products, and he came to like this county. Therefore, when he was ordered by the central government to come back to Seoul after a few years, he would cry again, not wanting to leave the county This legend reminds us of the hospitable people of this area from the past.
